Mathematics Intent

 

At Moorland Primary School we intend for all out pupils to be able to understand the world, have the ability to reason mathematically, have an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.  Our Mathematics curriculum develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills so that all pupils know more, remember more and understand more.  We follow a mastery approach to the teaching and learning of mathematics.  Mastery is a journey and a long-term goal achieved through exploration, clarification, practice and application over time.  At each stage of learning, teachers aim to support pupils to demonstrate a deep, conceptual understanding of topics and develop the ability to build on this over time.  We believe that children should make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competency in solving increasingly sophisticated problems.
