Mathematics Intent
At Moorland Primary School we aim for all our pupils to be able to understand the world, have the ability to reason mathematically, have an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics and have a sense of great passion for the subject.
Our Mathematics curriculum develops learning and results in the acquisition of knowledge and skills so that all pupils know more, remember more and understand more. We follow a mastery approach to the teaching and learning of mathematics. Mastery is a journey and a long-term goal achieved through exploration, clarification, practice, resilience and application over time. We follow the "White Rose Maths" scheme of work.
At each stage of learning, teachers aim to support learners in developing a deep, conceptual understanding of the mathematics curriculum. We believe that learners should make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop their fluency, reasoning and competency in solving increasingly sophisticated problems.
